University of Basrah Receives Iranian Delegation to Discuss Shared Water Crisis
The University of Basrah hosted an important meeting that brought together researchers from its colleges and research centers, alongside a delegation of environmental activists and scholars from Iranian universities.
The discussions focused on the causes and challenges of water scarcity and pollution in the marshes and rivers shared between Iraq and Iran.
Participants emphasized that climate change poses a serious threat to the aquatic environment in both countries. They also agreed that water policies of upstream states have a major and direct impact on fluctuations in water availability, which negatively affects local ecosystems.
This meeting is considered an important step toward strengthening academic and environmental cooperation between Iraq and Iran, with the aim of developing sustainable solutions to the regional water crisis.
