PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Explores Pragmatic Dimensions in the Prose Discourse of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Waeli
A PhD dissertation at the College of Arts, University of Basrah examined the pragmatic dimensions in the prose discourse of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Waeli.
The dissertation, presented by Qaiser Hassan Qasim, aimed to provide a comprehensive study of Al-Waeli’s discourse from a pragmatic perspective, focusing on how language is used to achieve specific communicative purposes in real contexts. The main objective was to analyze the discourse and uncover its pragmatic dimensions.
The study was structured into three chapters, in which the researcher discussed:
• The dimension of speech acts,
• The deictic dimension,
• And the dimensions of conversational implicature and presupposition in Al-Waeli’s discourse.
