President of the University of Basrah Participates in the Ninth Meeting of the Advisory Board at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research
The President of the University of Basrah, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, took part in the proceedings of the ninth meeting of the Advisory Board at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which was chaired by H.E. the Minister, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, with the attendance of senior officials and presidents of public universities.
At the outset of the meeting, the Minister underscored that Iraqi universities are moving forward in enhancing their institutional and academic performance, mobilizing their research and specialized capacities in ways that reinforce their position within the knowledge society and keep pace with its dynamics. He further noted that the growing demand for higher education opens up new prospects for expansion into emerging disciplines, most notably artificial intelligence, in addition to advancing research programs that will position Iraqi universities on the path of global competitiveness.
Dr. Al-Aboudi emphasized the importance of keeping abreast of modern technologies and comprehensive digital transformation in teaching and learning, while developing research tools that enable universities to contribute effectively to the achievement of sustainable development goals.
The meeting included a discussion of the agenda items, during which members voted in favor of several key resolutions, most notably:
• Approval of the Charter of Iraqi University Traditions and Customs.
• Adoption of electronic point-of-sale (POS) systems within universities, in line with the directives of the Council of Ministers and the Central Bank’s decisions.
• Completion of full digital transformation prior to the commencement of the 2025–2026 academic year.
• Updating the directory of foreign universities and adding several institutions to the scholarship list.
• Amending the designation from “People of Determination” or “Special Needs” to “People with Distinguished Abilities,” alongside studying the establishment of colleges and departments dedicated to supporting this group.
The Minister concluded the meeting by directing universities to strengthen their international academic and scientific partnerships, thereby contributing to the exchange of expertise, programs, students, faculty members, and researchers, and ensuring the highest levels of integration in addressing scientific and technological challenges.
