Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines the Protective Effect of Lycopene and Coenzyme Q10
A master’s thesis at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, investigated the protective effect of lycopene and coenzyme Q10 against ifosfamide-induced neurotoxicity in rats.
The thesis, presented by graduate student Mohammed Saeed Arshid Al-Tamimi, aimed to identify preventive strategies for neurotoxicity resulting from the use of ifosfamide in the treatment of certain types of cancer. The findings revealed that both lycopene and coenzyme Q10 exhibited a clear protective effect on brain tissue against drug-induced neurotoxicity.
The study involved evaluating the protective role of lycopene and coenzyme Q10 individually and in combination against neurotoxicity, using an experimental animal model (male rats).
Results indicated that while both compounds possess significant protective properties, their effect is more pronounced when administered together.
