University of Basrah Explores Faculty Perspectives on Challenges of Implementing AI Technologies in Iraqi Universities
A master’s thesis at the College of Education for Women, University of Basrah, investigated the challenges of applying artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in Iraqi universities.
The study, conducted by researcher Naba Wasam Jabbar, aimed to examine the indicators and obstacles in each domain of AI application in universities, as well as the differences in implementation between humanities and scientific disciplines.
The findings revealed that university faculty face several challenges in implementing AI technologies, including a shortage of trained experts, limited technical competencies, insufficient storage capacity, and internet connectivity issues that hinder effective use of AI in higher education.
The thesis recommended developing targeted training programs for faculty to enhance their AI skills, interpreting AI outputs, and facilitating collaboration with international academic staff experienced in AI across various devices and software necessary for its application in higher education.
