University of Basrah Faculty Member Publishes Research in an International Journal
Dr. Hussein Nasser Khalaf, a faculty member at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah, published a research paper titled "Insights into the Pharmaceutical Properties of Synthesized Green Iron Oxide Nanoparticles" in the British journal Scientific Reports, and was ranked among the top quartile of Scopus.
The aim of the research was to study onion peel extract, which is an excellent choice for the manufacture of Fe3O4 nanoparticles, which could be used in many future therapeutic applications.
The research involved the preparation of Iraqi onion extract (Allium cepa), which was subsequently used as a reducing agent in the biosynthesis of Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs).
The study demonstrated the production of solid, crystalline, and semi-spherical Fe3O4 nanoparticles with an average size of 36 ± 1.23 nm, possessing antibacterial, antiviral, and antioxidant properties.
