University of Basrah Holds Seminar on the Impact of Water Salinity on the Environment and Plants
The Natural History Museum at the University of Basrah organized an educational seminar titled “The Impact of Water Salinity on the Environment and Plants”, addressing the environmental challenges resulting from increased salinity levels and their repercussions on ecosystems and agriculture.
The seminar aimed to highlight the importance of developing scientific solutions to tackle salinity, as it is considered one of the most pressing challenges threatening agriculture and natural resources.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Shatha Mohammed Hamza, who reviewed the main causes of rising salinity in water, its direct effects on plant growth and soil health, as well as its impact on biodiversity.
The seminar recommended adopting specialized research programs to address salinity using modern technologies, in addition to enhancing cooperation between universities and governmental bodies to find practical and sustainable solutions.
