University of Basrah Faculty Member Participates in the First Middle East Scientific Conference
Abbas Fadhil Majid, a faculty member at the College of Engineering, University of Basrah, participated in the First International Scientific Conference for the Middle East.
His participation included presenting a research paper entitled “The Impact of Renewable Energy on Human Rights.”
The study discussed the other side of renewable energy’s impact and how this sector can be linked to various forms of human rights violations and the self-determination of indigenous peoples, including land appropriation, destruction of sacred sites, forced displacement, child labor, poor working conditions, restrictions on collective bargaining and workplace organization, as well as the absence of justice and inequality. The research also highlighted several negative effects on food security, health, and the loss of water resources.
