Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Discusses the Properties of Natural Soil and their Impact on Asphalt Road Performance
A master's thesis at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah examined the properties of natural soil and their impact on asphalt road performance, using a case study of the Qurna-Jubaish road.
The thesis, presented by student Hussein Sahm Jassim, aims to introduce the road system as an important component of any country's economic and social development. Proper connectivity between cities, regions, and neighborhoods is of vital importance in countries like Iraq, where other means of transportation such as aviation, railways, and river transport remain underdeveloped.
The thesis included four chapters, in which the student discussed the use of the Pavement Condition Index (PCI), as defined in ASTM D6433, to infer the Californian bearing capacity of natural soils, which has a negligible impact on pavement performance.
