Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores Reading Directives in Exegetical Discourse
A master’s thesis at the College of Education in Al-Qurna, University of Basrah, examined the topic of reading directives in exegetical discourse, using the Analytical Exegesis of the Holy Qur’an as a model.
The thesis, presented by student Sumoud Ali Hussein, aimed to identify the elements that guide the reading process toward a specific meaning and to reveal how these directives function in directing the reader to understand Qur’anic significations. The research emphasized that the diversity of exegetical readings stems from the differences in these internal and external directives of the text, given the Qur’an’s rich semantic depth and rhetorical inimitability.
The researcher relied on the Encyclopedia of Analytical Exegesis of the Holy Qur’an by Professor Dr. Abbas Al-Fahham, published in 2023. This encyclopedia is regarded as one of the most significant modern works in Qur’anic exegesis, distinguished by its analytical methodology, its integration of linguistic and non-linguistic sciences to derive precise meanings, and its adoption of a contemporary academic approach that differs from traditional exegetical methods.
