A master’s thesis at the University of Basrah examined “Cemeteries in the Islamic State up to 247 AH: A Historical Study.”
The thesis, submitted by the student Zainab Abdul-Hussein Abdul-Bari, aims to shed light on cemeteries in the Islamic State up to the year 247 AH, addressing the names of cemeteries and the reasons behind their designations, as well as the geographical locations that encompassed them. It also documents the graves of prominent historical figures whose resting places were subjected to damage, in addition to highlighting the transformations cemeteries underwent over time.
The study is structured into three chapters. Throughout these, the researcher discusses the linguistic and semantic definitions of cemeteries, funerary architecture in ancient history, and the phenomenon of grave desecration.
