PhD Dissertation at the University of Basra Investigates the American Veto in the UN Security Council Regarding the Palestinian Issue
A PhD dissertation at the University of Basra examined the use of the American veto in the United Nations Security Council concerning the Palestinian issue during the period 1973–2017.
The dissertation, submitted by the student Hussam Sakban Hays, aims to investigate the impact of the American veto on international resolutions related to the Palestinian issue, and how it has obstructed these resolutions in service of the Zionist entity, thereby consolidating, supporting, and encouraging settlement activities and Israeli aggressions at the expense of the rights of the Palestinian people.
The dissertation comprises four chapters, in which the student discussed: the impact of the American veto on Security Council resolutions concerning the Palestinian issue up to 1980; the United States’ stance toward international resolutions on the Palestinian issue in light of its use of the veto during 1980–1989; the role of the American veto in encouraging settlement activities and expropriating Palestinian rights during 1990–2001; and the effect of the American veto in supporting the Zionist entity and Israeli crimes during 2002–2017.
