Master’s Thesis at the University of Basra Examines the Impact of Culture on the Translation of Legal Contracts
A Master’s thesis at the University of Basra investigated the impact of culture on the translation of legal contracts in Iraq.
The thesis, submitted by the student Tabarak Jassim Hashoosh, aims to assess the influence of cultural factors on the translation of legal documents in Iraq, with a focus on marriage, divorce, inheritance, and agency contracts between Arabic and English. It seeks to provide a practical framework for analyzing the effect of cultural, religious, and social dimensions in conveying legal concepts, and to identify the challenges faced by legal translators when handling terms with religious and cultural connotations in these contracts.
The thesis comprises five chapters, in which the student discussed data analysis, conclusions, recommendations, and proposals for future researchers.
