PhD Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines Modeling the Distillation of Heavy Wastewater
A PhD thesis at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah was presented, titled "Modeling the Distillation of Heavy Wastewater Using Solar Energy for the Climate of Southern Iraq."
The thesis, presented by student Adi Kadhim Jaber, aims to design and construct a simplified solar distillation plant equipped with a parabolic layer collector (PDC) to improve freshwater production. A solar distillation system with a one-square-meter basin area is used as the system. The system is equipped with a glass cover tilted at a 31-degree angle to the horizon to facilitate steam condensation and is equipped with insulating panels to reduce heat loss.
The thesis includes five chapters in which the student discusses water scarcity and the contamination of available water resources as two of the most important environmental and economic issues facing developing countries, particularly in rural and remote areas, such as southern Iraq.
