Ph.D. Dissertation at the University of Basrah Explores a Cognitive-Pragmatic Study of Approximation Strategies in Legitimizing Countering Violent Extremism
A doctoral dissertation at the University of Basrah examined a cognitive-pragmatic study of approximation strategies employed to legitimize countering violent extremism in both English and Arabic media discourse.
The dissertation, submitted by Bahar Saddam Ismail, aims to investigate the underlying cognitive-pragmatic processes behind approximation strategies and to explore the linguistic mechanisms involved in shaping the perceptual cognition of the dangers of violent extremism. It further seeks to identify which language proves more effective in framing the risks associated with combating it.
The dissertation comprised five chapters, in which the researcher discussed approximation theory, its mechanisms, the research methodology, as well as the analysis and interpretation of data.
