University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on Referential Imagination in Literature
The Center for Basrah and Arabian Gulf Studies at the University of Basrah organized a seminar on the concept, terminology, and examples of referential imagination in literature.
The seminar, presented by Dr. Ishraq Sami Abdul-Nabi, aimed to clarify the notion of referentiality associated with factual realities, autobiographical elements, and documented experiences, in contrast to imagination, which represents the creative dimension and the ability to reshape and artistically formulate experiences.
The discussion addressed the idea of referential imagination as a form of autobiographical writing that seeks a balance between the referential and the fictional, grounded in reality while utilizing narrative tools, language, and artistic structures to produce a text that combines truth and creativity.
