University of Basrah Holds a Panel Discussion on Suicide Prevention
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a panel discussion entitled “Suicide Prevention: The Role of Psychological and Educational Counseling in Promoting Youth Mental Well-being.”
The seminar aimed to highlight the seriousness of suicide both globally and locally, identify risk and protective factors associated with youth, and underscore the role of psychological and educational counseling in reducing suicide rates and raising community awareness of the importance of mental well-being.
The session, presented by Dr. Rafif Abdulhafez Al-Riyahi, addressed the causes leading to suicide and the means of prevention through psychological and social support.
The seminar concluded with recommendations to strengthen the role of counseling centers in universities and schools, launch national programs for early intervention and prevention, and foster collaboration with educational, health, and media institutions.
