University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on Human Rights
The College of Nursing at the University of Basrah organized a seminar titled “A Historical and Legal Study of Secret Voting in Elections as a Human Right.”
The seminar aimed to raise awareness among students, particularly voters, about the importance of participating in elections and to ensure their readiness to engage in the process by providing knowledge about electoral procedures and fostering confidence in their fairness and effectiveness in selecting representatives. It also sought to encourage students to take part in public decision-making processes that impact their lives and to support programs and initiatives that benefit society as a whole.
The seminar, presented by Dr. Fatima Jasem Mohammed and Lecturer Riyadh Hussein Taqi, addressed several key topics, including the right to vote and political participation as outlined in international conventions and the Iraqi constitution, the significance and societal impact of active participation, and the shared responsibility of protecting the achievements of the democratic process.
