University of Basrah Holds an Educational Workshop on the Stages of Carp Taxidermy
The Natural History Museum at the University of Basrah organized a practical educational workshop titled “Stages of Carp Taxidermy.”
The workshop aimed to familiarize participants with the steps of fish taxidermy and the preservation of their morphological and ecological characteristics for exhibition and scientific documentation purposes, highlighting the importance of enhancing knowledge about local fish species and preservation methods.
The workshop, presented by museum staff Hatem Khalid Alawi, Zekra Kazem Hassan, and Saja Bandar Abdul Hussein, provided a detailed explanation of the taxidermy process—from cleaning and chemical treatment to preparing specimens for display in educational halls—while demonstrating the tools and materials used at each stage.
This activity is part of the museum’s program to develop the skills of its staff and disseminate scientific knowledge through modern museum taxidermy techniques.
