University of Basrah Explores Bahrain During the Era of Sheikh Hamad bin Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa
A master’s thesis at the College of Education for Women, University of Basrah, titled “Sheikh Hamad bin Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa (1872–1942): A Historical Study,” examined the history of Bahrain during the reign of Sheikh Hamad bin Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa.
The thesis, presented by researcher Farah Rashid Malibes Al-Saadoun, aimed to provide a historical analysis of Bahrain under Sheikh Hamad’s rule, focusing on his administrative and political roles, relations with regional countries, and the economic and cultural developments in Bahrain from 1923 to 1942.
The study concluded that the reforms witnessed in Bahrain were not solely the result of Sheikh Hamad’s internal vision, but were also influenced by British intervention, as Britain played a major role in driving administrative, political, economic, and cultural reforms during his reign. However, Sheikh Hamad succeeded in leveraging this geopolitical reality to advance modernization and lay the foundations of the modern Bahraini state.
