University of Basrah Holds Scientific Symposium on Protein Markers in Oral Infections
The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah held a scientific symposium on protein markers in oral infections using the SDS-PAGE technique.
The symposium, presented by Dr. Rawya Muslim, explained the mechanism of SDS binding to proteins and its effect on degrading their original structure and encapsulating their original charge. SDS-PAGE is a protein separation technique based on the principle of gel electrophoresis, where proteins are separated based on their size in a polyacrylamide gel.
The symposium aims to study changes in saliva or oral tissue proteins to detect indicators (markers) of inflammation. SDS-PAGE separates proteins based on their size, which helps identify proteins associated with inflammation and their changes in disease states.
