University of Basrah Organizes Scientific Symposium on the Water Crisis in Iraq and Its Economic and Environmental Impacts
The College of Administration and Economics in Qurna at the University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium titled “The Water Crisis in Iraq and Its Economic and Environmental Impacts: Causes and Possible Solutions.”
The symposium aimed to discuss Iraq’s ongoing water crisis from both economic and environmental perspectives, analyze its internal and external causes, and present scientific insights and practical solutions that could contribute to the sustainable management of water resources and the enhancement of national water security.
Presented by Dr. Adnan Farhan Abdul-Hussein, Dr. Zahid Qasim Badan, and Dr. Jasim Hussein, the symposium explored the impact of water scarcity on the productive, agricultural, and industrial sectors, as well as its repercussions on the national economy and environment. The speakers emphasized the need to adopt sound policies for managing natural resources and to promote modern technologies in irrigation, treatment, and water reuse.
