A Higher Diploma Research at the University of Basrah Explores Women’s Preference for Cesarean Delivery
A higher diploma research conducted at the College of Medicine, University of Basrah, titled “Women’s Preference for Cesarean Delivery: Incidence and Associated Factors,” aimed to identify the rate and determinants influencing women’s preference for cesarean section at Ibn Ghazal Hospital. The goal was to guide interventions that promote safe, patient-centered childbirth and reduce unnecessary cesarean deliveries.
The study, presented by student Alaa Sahel Najm, concluded that most women in Basrah prefer cesarean delivery. This preference was influenced by factors such as age, socioeconomic status, and obstetric history. The main motivations included fear, physicians’ recommendations, and concerns about newborn safety. Meanwhile, gaps in counseling contributed to greater uncertainty regarding labor.
