University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on Survival Strategies in Desert Insects
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a seminar titled "Survival Strategies in Desert Insects."
The seminar, presented by Dr. Muslim Ashour Abdul-Wahid, aimed to demonstrate the ability of desert insects to adapt to harsh environmental conditions such as drought, high temperatures, and water scarcity.
The seminar addressed the most important survival strategies used by these insects, including phenotypic strategies such as small size and camouflage; physiological strategies such as the use of heat shock proteins and intermittent gas exchange; and behavioral strategies such as nocturnal activity and evaporative cooling. It also reviewed the characteristics of the harsh desert climate and its scarce vegetation cover.
