University of Basrah Organizes a Symposium on the Impact of Drugs and Stimulants on University Students
The College of Nursing at the University of Basrah organized an educational and awareness symposium entitled “Raising Awareness of the Dangers of Drugs and Psychoactive Substances and Their Negative Effects on University Students” under the slogan “Through Knowledge and Education, We Combat Drugs.”
The symposium featured lectures delivered by Brigadier General Humam Majeed Abdul-Awn, Director of the Media Division at the Directorate of Drug Control and Psychotropic Substances, Colonel Ali Mohsen, and Dr. Saddam Abdul-Amir.
The event covered a wide range of topics, including the types of drugs, their effects on individuals and society, and methods of prevention. It also highlighted the psychological and social consequences of drug abuse and discussed scientific and educational approaches to reducing this phenomenon. The speakers emphasized the importance of collective social responsibility in combating drug use.
This symposium comes as part of the college’s efforts to promote community awareness, spread a culture of health among students and the wider public, and shed light on issues that threaten individual safety and well-being. It also underscores the importance of cooperation between academic institutions and security agencies to create a community free from destructive social afflictions and to build a safer, more stable future.
