For Sustainable Development in Preserving Biodiversity: University of Basrah Publishes a Guide on Caddisflies
Dr. Huda Kazem Ahmed, a faculty member at the Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basrah, has published a field guide entitled “A Guide to Caddisflies in Basra Governorate – Iraq.”
The guide aims to update the scientific database and provide biological indicators to support research and taxonomic studies, contributing to sustainable development plans for the preservation of biodiversity in the Basra environment.
The 45-page guide highlights the ecological importance of caddisflies in maintaining ecosystem balance and their role in preying on harmful insects such as mosquitoes and flies. It documents approximately 12 different caddisfly species, covering both larval and adult stages, with the prospect of expanding future studies to include other invertebrate groups in Iraqi habitats.
