University of Basrah Medical Team Successfully Performs High-Risk Specialized Surgery
A medical team at the University of Basrah, led by Dr. Noufel Ali Al-Mubarak, Dean of the College of Medicine and Anesthesia Consultant, along with Dr. Abdul Amir Mohsen Al-Darraji, Endocrine Surgery Consultant, and Dr. Mohammed Sanaa, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Specialist, in collaboration with Al-Fayhaa Specialized Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology, successfully performed a highly complex and high-risk surgery.
The patient, a 25-year-old resident of Nineveh, was referred to Al-Fayhaa Center after exhibiting severe hypertension and rapid heart rate. Diagnostic tests revealed a large tumor in the right adrenal gland secreting extremely high levels of adrenaline (Pheochromocytoma), posing a life-threatening risk. The tumor had also invaded major blood vessels, increasing the complexity and danger of the surgical intervention.
Preparation for the surgery lasted nearly three months, during which the patient underwent a precise treatment regimen using specialized medications to control blood pressure and heart rate, following established medical protocols to ensure stability before surgery.
The surgery was successfully completed without complications. The patient was transferred to the intensive care unit for post-operative monitoring and is currently in stable condition.
