University of Basrah Organizes a Symposium on the Role of Educational Institutions in Addressing Emerging Social Phenomena
The Central Library Secretariat at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the College of Arts, organized a symposium on the role of educational institutions in addressing emerging and alien phenomena within society.
The symposium aimed to identify the unfamiliar social phenomena that have emerged since 2003, examine their impact on Iraqi society in general and the university community in particular, and propose appropriate solutions to confront them.
Presented by faculty members from the College of Arts, the symposium discussed several major phenomena, including cyber extortion, suicide, the spread of drug abuse, family and moral disintegration, the proliferation of armed manifestations, and financial and ethical corruption. The discussion also highlighted the influence of these behaviors on societal values amid various external and internal factors—political, economic, and social—that have collectively contributed to a shift in social norms.
