University of Basrah Explores the Phenomenological Horizon in the Use of Symbol and Myth in Arabic Poetry
A master’s thesis at the College of Education for Women, University of Basrah, titled “The Phenomenological Horizon in the Use of Symbol and Myth in Arabic Poetry: A Comparative Study”, has examined the phenomenological perspective through a comparative approach between poetic models from the pre-Islamic era and modern poetry.
The thesis, submitted by researcher Haneen Habib Ismail in the Department of Arabic Language, aimed to explore the phenomenological horizon by juxtaposing classical and contemporary poetic texts.
The study addressed symbol and myth as radical historical constructs, in addition to examining the ideological dimension of myths in modern texts and their manifestation as a form of cultural renaissance. It also clarified the concept of the motif as a fundamental element upon which the poet relies to craft the poetic event.
The thesis concluded that the phenomenological approach allows for viewing symbol and myth as revelatory structures that express the possibilities of symbolic and mythic employment grounded in human consciousness, as intentional emanations originating from the self.
