A Scientific Study at the University of Basrah Explores the Generation of Clean Electrical Energy from Solid Waste in Basrah
A scientific study conducted at the University of Basrah by faculty members from the College of Engineering investigated the generation of clean electrical energy from solid waste in Basrah through the utilization of landfill gas (LFG) and refuse-derived fuel (RDF).
The study, published in Open Engineering—a German journal classified within the second quartile (Q2) of international scientific journal rankings—indicated that applying a hybrid system combining RDF and LFG could yield an annual power production ranging between 26.4 and 36.1 megawatts. This represents an important step toward promoting reliance on sustainable energy sources and reducing harmful emissions associated with fossil fuel combustion.
