University of Basrah Discusses Placental Abruption: Risk Factors and Consequences
A Higher Diploma research project at the College of Medicine, University of Basrah, examined placental abruption, its associated risk factors, and clinical consequences.
The study, conducted by student Maha Kazem Okab, aimed to investigate cases of placental abruption in Basrah during the academic year 2024–2025, focusing on its prevalence, maternal risk factors, related complications, and adverse perinatal outcomes, with the goal of improving maternal and fetal healthcare.
The research concluded that placental abruption is associated with delayed diagnosis, maternal complications, and poor neonatal outcomes. Contributing factors include young maternal age, anemia, and obesity, all of which increase the risk of morbidity and mortality.
