Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores the Development of a Computer Vision Model for Precise Detection
A master’s thesis at the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Basrah, investigated the development of a computer vision model for accurate object detection in underwater environments.
The thesis, presented by graduate student Shaimaa Khudhur Hussein, aimed to enhance object detection using modern computer vision techniques by improving the YOLOv8 model through the integration of the Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) module to strengthen multi-scale feature representation.
The study concluded that the proposed model achieved a significant improvement in detection accuracy while maintaining temporal efficiency, confirming its potential applicability in underwater imaging and field research.
