To Promote Food Security and Sustainable Development: University of Basrah Continues Research on Azolla Cultivation and Production
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah, through its Aquaculture Unit, continues its scientific research aimed at cultivating and producing Azolla to strengthen food security and advance sustainable development.
Azolla is considered a protein-rich forage crop that can be used in feeding poultry, livestock, and fish, making it a promising and cost-effective alternative feed source.
The research focuses on applying modern agricultural techniques through hands-on training that includes pond construction and preparation, fertilization, and harvesting operations, in addition to developing educational and awareness materials.
This initiative reflects the University’s commitment to supporting scientific research and serving the agricultural sector, under the guidance of the College Dean, Prof. Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi.
