University of Basrah Organizes a Workshop on Sustainable Fish Stock Management
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah organized a workshop on sustainable fish stock management.
The workshop aimed to achieve a balance between the utilization of aquatic resources and ensuring their long-term sustainability through the study and assessment of fish stocks.
Delivered by Lecturer Uday Mohammed Hassan Qasim, the session provided an overview of sustainable fish stock management, focusing on key aspects related to regulating exploitation activities to preserve fish populations. It also covered stock assessment methods, both direct and indirect, such as population measurement and the use of analytical software like FiSAT II. Additionally, the workshop discussed strategies for maintaining sustainable stock levels, maximizing productivity, and exploring modern techniques for fish stock assessment and conservation.
