University of Basrah Organizes Awareness Event on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty
Under the slogan “Together Toward a Poverty-Free Society,” the University Psychological Counseling Center, in cooperation with the Educational Guidance and Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Arts, organized an awareness event marking the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
The event aimed to promote community awareness of the importance of combating poverty, as it remains one of the most pressing challenges facing modern societies.
The program included intellectual and educational themes that addressed the human dimension in dealing with poverty, the importance of strengthening values of solidarity and giving within the university community, and the social, economic, and psychological impacts of poverty. It also highlighted the role of educational institutions in preparing a conscious and responsible generation capable of contributing to sustainable development, in addition to discussing the psychological effects of poverty and approaches to addressing them through counseling and psychological support.
The event also featured scientific interventions, research presentations, and calls to launch student and volunteer initiatives aimed at supporting underprivileged families and promoting social responsibility among students—affirming that eradicating poverty is a shared responsibility that requires the combined efforts of state institutions and society.
