University of Basrah Wins First Place in the Green Innovation and Sustainability Program
The College of Engineering team at the University of Basrah won first place in the Middle East and North Africa region within the Green Innovation and Sustainability Program.
Team supervisor, Dr. Ammar Abd Al-Shahid Abd Al-Hamid, stated that the college’s team secured first place in the competition for their innovative project, which addresses one of the most significant agricultural challenges in Iraq and the region.
He added that the project aims to develop an intelligent system for treating and improving the quality of agricultural irrigation water by using IoT technologies and sensors to measure key water-quality indicators such as salinity, turbidity, and pH levels. These indicators are then analyzed to select the optimal treatment method through an integrated electronic control system, contributing to supporting the agricultural sector in areas suffering from high salinity and water pollution.
He confirmed that the team competed with more than 250 projects from over 20 Arab, Asian, and African countries.
