University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on the Dangers of Drug Abuse
The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized an awareness seminar on the impact of drug abuse on youth.
The seminar aimed to educate students about the health, psychological, and social risks of drug use, while raising awareness of its harmful effects on families and society.
Presented by faculty members Ashwaq Jabbar Aboud and Lamyaa Subhi Nasser from the Educational Counseling Center, the seminar discussed the definition and types of drugs, clarifying the major causes of drug use, including family disintegration and negative peer influence. It also reviewed the health, psychological, and social consequences associated with drug abuse.
The lecture further emphasized key treatment and prevention strategies such as engaging in sports activities, reading, avoiding isolation, and reporting cases of substance use.
The seminar recommended intensifying awareness workshops, strengthening the role of families, and enforcing strict measures against drug dealers.
