University of Basrah Explores Enhanced Scientific Collaboration with a Delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran
In alignment with its strategic orientation toward innovation and the transition to a knowledge-based economy, the University of Basrah held a high-level meeting chaired by University President, Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kazem Al-Asadi, and attended by the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Haider Khazaal Mihbes. The meeting brought together representatives from the Iranian Consulate in Basrah and the Free Zone in Al-Mahmara to discuss avenues for strengthening scientific and research cooperation with Iranian knowledge-based enterprises.
The discussions addressed frameworks for joint action aimed at advancing scientific research, supporting innovative projects, and activating academic and economic partnerships. These efforts fall in line with the vision of Iraqi universities to transition toward fourth-generation universities, which integrate research outcomes with societal needs and economic priorities.
Dr. Al-Asadi emphasized that enhancing cooperation with Iranian knowledge-based companies constitutes a key pillar in the university’s strategic plan to advance its educational and research infrastructure. He noted that such collaboration supports the shift from traditional research models to global best practices that contribute to sustainable development.
The Iranian delegation expressed the readiness of Iranian scientific institutions to provide expertise and technical support, underscoring the importance of joint initiatives that foster knowledge production and promote an innovation-driven economy. The delegation also highlighted Iran’s extensive experience in establishing and managing science and technology parks.
The two sides agreed on several immediate practical steps, including organizing an academic delegation visit from the University of Basrah to scientific and developmental parks in Iran to gain insight into the operations of knowledge-based companies. They also discussed preparations for a joint scientific exhibition at the University of Basrah featuring innovations and knowledge products from Iranian universities and companies, with the aim of further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the next phase.
