Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores the Biochemical Relationship of Antioxidants and Wheat Allergy
The College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basrah has examined a master’s thesis in the Department of Chemistry on evaluating and studying the biochemical relationship between enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants and certain trace elements in patients with wheat allergy in Basra Governorate.
The thesis, presented by researcher Ghadeer Jaafar Salem, aims to determine the levels of antioxidants, trace elements, and blood lipids as indicators associated with oxidative stress and overall health.
The study included 91 participants—both patients and healthy individuals—and relied on advanced analytical techniques to measure vitamins, enzymes, and the elements zinc and copper.
The results showed a significant decrease in some antioxidants and disturbances in blood lipid levels among patients, indicating elevated oxidative stress and the potential for future health complications.
