University of Basrah Organizes Course on Coral Reefs
The Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basrah organized a course entitled “Coral Reefs and Their Importance in the Ecosystem.”
The course aimed to train specialists in understanding coral reef environments and the methods for their preservation.
Delivered by Dr. Huda Kazem Ahmed, the course covered the definition of coral reefs, their formation, types, life cycles, and geographical distribution. It highlighted their role in maintaining ecological balance and their importance in marine environments, as well as the factors threatening their survival and growth, including climate change, pollution, and overfishing. The course also addressed significant efforts to conserve and develop coral reefs through funding programs and projects aimed at sustaining this natural resource.
