University of Basrah Organizes Scientific Workshop on Genetic Control of Offspring Gender
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a scientific workshop entitled “Genetic Control of Offspring Gender in Livestock and Poultry.”
The workshop aimed to introduce modern methods used to determine the gender of animal offspring and to review the genetic techniques associated with this process.
Delivered by Dr. Salah Mahdi Al-Sudani, the workshop explained the genetic mechanisms related to sex chromosomes and how certain environmental conditions and laboratory techniques can influence gender determination.
The session also addressed the possibility of altering the sex of a fertilized egg during the early stages of embryonic development by modifying the genes responsible for sexual trait development using genetic engineering techniques.
