University of Basrah Organizes a Workshop on Closed Aquaculture Systems
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah, in collaboration with the Training and Advisory Center, organized a workshop entitled “Establishing and Operating Closed Recirculating Aquaculture Systems.”
The workshop aimed to present sustainable solutions to the challenges facing aquaculture in Iraq, particularly water scarcity and increasing salinity levels.
Delivered by a group of the college’s faculty members, the workshop provided an explanation of the components and functions of Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), along with an overview of the current state of aquaculture in the country and opportunities for its development through water-recycling and treatment technologies.
The workshop also discussed the technical and economic advantages and challenges of these systems, as well as the potential integration of alternative energy and smart technologies to support the future of aquaculture.
