University of Basrah Holds Lecture on Sustainable Date Palm Production
The Date Palm Research Center at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture entitled “Date Palm: Sustainable Production from Fruit to Root,” which addressed the various products of the date palm and their potential to enhance sustainability and generate added value.
The lecture aimed to highlight the importance of utilizing secondary date palm products as valuable resources that can be employed in modern industries, traditional crafts, as well as in food, health, and cosmetic applications.
Presented by Dr. Imad Hamid Abdul-Samad, the lecture reviewed the unique nutritional and functional properties of each part of the date palm, illustrating how the type of component and method of preparation influence its potential applications. It also emphasized that many of these by-products are still neglected and treated as waste, despite their significant role in supporting sustainable production concepts and maximizing the benefits derived from date palm resources.
