A Faculty Member at the University of Basrah Receives Patent for Edible Gelatin-Based Films
Dr. Khadija Sadiq Jafar, a faculty member at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, was granted a patent for her innovative technique to preserve chilled fish fillets using edible gelatin-based films reinforced with nano magnesium oxide.
The patent involves the development of a film with effective antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. The study confirmed the film’s non-toxicity and its efficiency in maintaining the quality attributes of the fillets during refrigerated storage.
