The College of Nursing at the University of Basrah organized an awareness seminar titled “Traffic Culture and Accident Prevention.”
The seminar, delivered by Colonel Salah Ramadan Al-Asadi, Director of Media and Public Relations at Basrah Traffic Department, aimed to highlight the dangers of traffic accidents, which claim nearly 1.19 million lives annually, while 20–50 million others suffer non-fatal injuries, many resulting in long-term disabilities.
The seminar noted that traffic accidents in Iraq claimed the lives of more than 5,500 people in 2022, the majority being adolescents and young adults under the age of 29. It also presented global statistics, emphasizing that one person dies in a traffic accident every 25 seconds worldwide.
The session concluded with recommendations on preventive measures to avoid road accidents and highlighted key strategies to achieve traffic safety.
