Scientific Study at the University of Basrah Evaluates Heavy Metals Using Pollution Indices
A scientific study conducted by a research team from the College of Science, University of Basrah, investigated soil quality near public streets and fuel stations in Basrah Province, based on heavy metal contamination using selected pollution indices.
The study, published in EnvironmentAsia, a journal indexed in Scopus, indicated that emissions from transportation and fuel stations contribute substantial amounts of heavy metals to the soil, exceeding natural limits. This has led to soil contamination, particularly with cadmium and lead.
