University of Basrah Organizes Scientific Symposium on “Alkasite Material and Its Applications”
The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah organized a specialized scientific symposium on Alkasite material and its applications in dentistry, aiming to highlight its significance in treating dental caries compared to other types of fillings.
The symposium, presented by Lecturer Ola Mohammed Abdul-Kadhim, provided a detailed explanation of the physical and mechanical properties as well as the chemical composition of this modern material. It was emphasized that Alkasite releases several important ions—including fluoride, calcium, phosphate, and hydroxide ions—when the oral pH drops below 5.5 due to bacterial activity.
The session aimed to demonstrate how these ions help reduce bacterial effects and promote remineralization of teeth, making Alkasite an effective option for treating caries and restoring damaged teeth.
