University of Basrah Holds Scientific Lecture on Oral Manifestations of Systemic Diseases
The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture titled “Oral Clinical Manifestations of Various Systemic Diseases.”
The lecture aimed to raise awareness among dental students and practitioners about the importance of oral manifestations as early diagnostic tools for systemic diseases and to enhance their ability to distinguish between localized oral signs and those associated with general medical conditions.
Delivered by Dr. Hussein Shati, the lecture presented oral signs linked to different systemic diseases. Dr. Shati highlighted that certain changes in the oral cavity may serve as early indicators of underlying systemic conditions. Clinical examples included mucosal pallor and tongue inflammation in anemia patients, tooth erosion due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or eating disorders, and gingival inflammation or bleeding in blood disorders.
