Publication of a Book by a University of Basrah Faculty Member on the Poetics of Abbasid Prose
Dr. Hala Fathi Kazem, a faculty member at the Basrah and Arabian Gulf Studies Center, University of Basrah, has published a book entitled “The Poetics of Abbasid Prose – The Poetics of Prose Styles in the Abbasid Era” (Part One). The book spans 169 pages, divided into two chapters.
The book explores the aesthetic levels of Abbasid prose texts through an analytical reading aimed at uncovering the artistic values that endowed these texts with poetic qualities.
It addresses a number of significant topics, including the development of prose between orality and literacy, the factors influencing writing in the Abbasid era, the diversity and transformation of prose styles, the poetics of titles and openings, internal rhythm and musicality in prose, stylistic deviations in Abbasid prose, and their reflection in the works of prominent writers such as Al-Jahiz, Ibn Al-‘Amid, Al-Qadi Al-Fadil, Badi‘ Al-Zaman Al-Hamadhani, and Al-Ma‘arri.
