The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah held a scientific seminar on thyroid disorders and their connection to oral health, highlighting the most common thyroid conditions and their direct impact on the health of the mouth and teeth.
Presented by lecturer Hanaa Khazaal, the seminar introduced the functions of the thyroid gland and its role in regulating metabolic processes and growth, with a focus on conditions such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
The seminar explained that the effects of thyroid disorders are not limited to general symptoms; rather, they often manifest clearly in the oral cavity. It emphasized that oral examinations can play a significant role in the early detection of these disorders.
